Tension erupted on Friday at the Vereeniging CBD, after law enforcement agencies forcefully removed street hawkers from the doorstep of the Mark-Park Mall, and other areas of the CBD.
It is alleged that the hawkers were operating without permits.
The hawkers then barricaded Voortrekker Street with debris, disrupting traffic flow in the CBD.
The Emfuleni local municipality has confirmed that the Hawkers did not have permits, adding that the municipal local Economic Development Department, will on Monday commence with a program to register all hawkers.
Meanwhile, the Vereeniging SAPS were monitoring the area, but calm has since been restored.
