In recent weeks the Ensign has published a couple of letters to the editor where local people have complained about large B-double trucks driving on Bridge St in the middle of Benalla.
The Ensign took these concerns to Benalla Rural City Mayor Danny Claridge, whose response was simple.
“No B-double trucks should be driving through Benalla on Bridge St,” he said.
“There is nothing physical to stop them driving through Benalla, but it is illegal for them to do that.”
To be clear, some larger trucks are permitted to drive through the CBD, it is only B-doubles that should not.
A B-double is defined in the Heavy Vehicle National Law as a combination consisting of a prime mover towing two semi-trailers.
Cr Claridge said if someone saw a B-double driving on Bridge St, through the CBD, they should report it to VicRoads.
