Housed on Little Collins Street and previously F4, the multi-room nightclub and bar was renowned as one of the city’s most charismatic bars and the go-to for a night of local and international electronic disco, hosting the likes of Jamie XX, George Michael, Solange Knowles, Honey Dijon, and Queens Of The Stone Age over the years.
Following the devastating impact of the pandemic with an endless wave of restrictions and lockdowns, as well as a building redevelopment proposal, the New Guernica owners Steve Costa, Dominic Lococo, Jaff Tzaferis and Kyle Bush have made the decision to close the CBD venue and look for an alternate location in Melbourne.
“It’s time to bid farewell to our home for over a decade, since 2009 to be precise! Yep! Our lease is close to finishing up and the building where we created all those special memories together will eventually be demolished to make way for a boutique hotel,” the post to social media read.
“With that being said, we invite you to celebrate the last 12 years of New Guernica’s residence as a stalwart in the Melbourne and international music and club scene.
“Over the next month we are winding down our tenure at the city haunt that New Guernica has long called home. We’re looking forward to sharing a last dance with you as our smoke machines run dry and our lasers fade. Uhha, those all-night sweaty benders are coming to an end (well, just for a short while anyway).”
A staple of Melbourne’s nightlife for many, the loss of the city venue and its sticky floors leave a hole in many punters’ dancing hearts.
Keep an eye on their socials for their final party announcement and for news of a new location.
